i fear for the club.remaining full time was a mistake as we can't attract part time players to step up with the wages we pay, and worry how we can sustain another season at this level, we have a tiny squad with no proven goalscorer, we are never going to score enough goals to reach 7th place, and if kayode goes in january our season could be potentially over
That’s true John but I think we have to address the weaknesses not just turn out in the same way or the result could well be the same. Blyth have us sussed. Everybody knows we don’t have funds and the manager has done a decent job while learning his trade, sometimes the hard way. Chris if we get the best out of what we have we would be top 8
Until after the oldham game the team played like a top 8 team. The team on paper are sure top 8 but if the team dont finish top 8 i wont be devestated
People have to remember where we were less than 6 months ago and what's been achieved so far. Yes it would be nice to have a striker like Novak / Shaw but considering how late we were in getting funds to get up and running we where already behind other clubs and finding top strikers at short notice was always going to be difficult. So we've lost a Derby match to Blyth but heyho we could have been history just like "Bury" bet they'd swap places with us given half a chance. Looking forward not backwards is what we have to aim for and having a Club to support.
People are forgetting the opposition second botton 2 wins all season now 3 second lowest goal scorers second highest goals conceded. Think the alfreton results glossed over some big cracks there for everyone to see. Williamson's tactics have to be questioned as much as everyone would like to love them
On a positive note- spenny and farsley lost in 6th and 7th. So, win the next 2 games and were back in it. If we don't then its looking very bad. Spenny the best possession playing team ive seen this season absolutely hammered us yet no real clear cut chances.
I don't think anyone is calling for a change of management. We all know where we were only six months ago. But that performance today was shockingly bad, and only the players can do something about that.
Well the manager and coaching staff can with selection and tactics How long is Lees out for-he’s a big miss and my man of the season so far? Barrow might be back so I think back 4 with Forbes missing out on Saturday. Really tough game
Obviously very disappointed with the result but I don’t think the performance was as bad as some are suggesting and I don’t think the effort or mindset of the players can be questioned either as we put in plenty of hefty challenges ourselves. We created a number of clear cut chances which we should have buried so, on another day, we could have won the game at a canter. Having said that, we gifted Blyth their 3 goals from some terrible defending.
I agree with Heed52 in that I can’t understand why we have reverted to a back 3. Cooper seems a decent player who could play in a 2, unless Williamson is still struggling and thinks he needs the extra assurance of two partners.
I know Preston got man of the match but, for me, he’s not the answer. He’s never going to be a regular scorer and we already have Olley to act as a link between midfield and attack so we need someone else, who has a bit of composure in front of goal, to play with Josh up top. I would have liked to have seen Blackett given a run but Williamson obviously doesn’t believe he warranted that.
As for the booing, people are entitled to their views but it’s not something I like to hear. If you are happy with a result, performance or effort, then applaud the players off the field but, if you’re not, then simply walk out at the end of the game. This is almost like a brand new club starting from scratch. We have new owners, practically a new squad, a novice Manager and are having to build bridges with previous commercial partners, or source new ones, as a result of the previous regime. It’s important we stick together to take the club forward.
Having said all of that, I was very impressed with Roberts - he shouldn’t be wasting his time at Blyth - and, yes, it was a bad defensive mistake but, credit where it’s due, what a finish by Dale.
Having said my frustration comes from a belief in this team and some of the players are or should be amongst the best in the division. Why aren’t we getting the maximum out of players and I don’t believe it’s passion or effort but there’s a lot of misplaced energy like intricate passing or faffing in our own half and not saving that for where the damage is done. Who said it was embarrassing? Fans boo at every club it’s just frustration or occasionally players invite it through obvious lack of effort. Talking about fans booing or criticising is justdefleecting from thinking about proper solutions. Blyth are a decent club-I don’t care what some our fans think-and getting beat in a derby is no disgrace. But getting beat partially through your own mistakes and naivety when you clearly have the ability to be far superior leads to that frustration. The defending was abysmal and warrants criticism.
We didn't get beaten partially through our mistakes Andy,we lost entirely because of our mistakes, mainly up front but 2nd and 3rd goals should have been avoided.Having said that,Blyth have conceded 4 goals or more 8 times this season and we really should've made it 9.
